That Old School Glamour

               That Old School Glamour

Muah! Kiss into the camera, lift your hand high over your brow and wave. Resituate the cream stole of fur draped over your shoulders, let those diamond chandeliers glisten brightly as they dangle from your ears. These descriptions, have most likely already taken you back to Marilyn Monroe. The way she used to speak, slow and breathy... the way she used to smile, the shadows of her lashes etched over the highest points of her cheekbone. I suppose, the Oscars, Grammys and other high profile events in Hollywood have still managed to keep a considerable hold on the some of the glamour that used to exist during her time. But then again, nobody has been able to do it quite like Miss Monroe, Miss Harlow, Rita, Lana, Marlene, Greta, Gene, Ava, etc. And quite honestly, I don't believe they ever will!

But, then again... maybe you'll call me old fashioned or perhaps caught up in the past, my vision blinded by the silver screen. Just the same, however... I know that many are just as intrigued as me out there, by the glamour of the early years in Hollywood, the 20's/ The Golden Age all the way through the 50's that is.

Ah! Yes... those were the days when it was the thing to garb oneself in pearls, diamonds, fur or adorn one's face with winged eyelashes, crimson stained lips and satiny curls. Those were the days of true beauty and flawless glamour! The days that celebrated femninity with vibrant pinks, glittering strings of diamonds... the days of elegant dresses galore!

So, with all that said... I have compiled a short shopping guide of some fashion picks reminiscent of that old Hollywood Glamour. Enjoy, darlings!;)

Lettuce or Coca-Cola?

Lettuce or Coca-Cola?

Today, I caught myself driving downtown, an appetite as vast as an elephant. After parking and visiting the charming little shops etched along the busy streets, I became immediately enticed by a clear jar filled with buttery yellow, posy pink and minty blue colored taffies. I'd intended to lead a day filled with salads and water, perhaps some zero calorie drink... but with my hunger-induced impulse, I reached out my fingers for a taffy, unwrapped it from it's wax paper rapper and savored it. Well, yes... I suppose I could have stopped with that... just one taffy never hurt anyone, but with this little splurge, I became all the more wanting of more and more sugary treats... the unhealthy kind that tip the scale. "I'll start my diet up again tomorrow!" I whispered to myself as I entered into a chocolate shop, a glass casing that displayed endless shelves of creamy truffles and milk chocolate dipped cherries and cookies right next to the door.

I hesitated for a few minutes, but soon found myself clutching a crisp paper bag with a couple of fancy truffles inside, eager to devour them. But that's not all! No, driving home I suddenly felt a pull on me as my eyes caught glimpse of the mango and coral lettering on the "Dunkin Donuts" sign just minutes away from my house. "A coffee... that's what I'll have." I repeated to myself as I walked into the espresso perfumed shop, shelves and shelves of freshly made donuts, vibrant glazes with rainbow-colored sprinkles swathed over them. "I'll take... err..." I stuttered as I made my way to the counter. "I-I'll have a medium iced vanilla latte and... hmm... a lemon filled donut and a pumpkin filled one as well." "Did I really just order that?" I immediately pondered to myself. The smooth lemony filling of the donut, however, immediately dimmed any guilt I may have possessed. Oh, and so did the white ruffles of whipped cream that topped my coffee, as well as the rich caramel drizzle strung over it. Yeah... I suppose it was well worth it in the end. Oh, and guess what... I don't even feel the tiniest bit bad about it. Well, maybe a little... but definitely not as much as I used to.

Yes, yes... I'll admit... I did struggle a lot with the hounding tug of the media... caught up with this false illusion of what I thought you had to look like in order to fit into society at one time. And yes...  I may have been very frugal in regards to my diet, as well as very particular about what I'd wanted the scale to read. I'm not going to lie... it was... very torturous to say the least! On the other hand, though... that's all over with! I don't care anymore. Life is so much cheerier when you're not obsessing over something so little. No more scale, and yet... no eating unhealthily either. All you have to do is just stay away from any fatty foods as much as possible... no donuts every day, but no detoxes every day either! Just live... live and lead a healthy lifestyle!

I'm for every body type out there... from the petite Audrey Hepburns to the curvaceous Marilyn Monroes! If only all women could just learn to accept their body makeup! Just be happy with the way God made them. Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, their body types immensely diverse were still equally beautiful women! So, today... I'd like to help all of the Marilyn's out there, the ones aiming to become a size 1 or 0 when they were never intended to be that small, learn to accept and celebrate the body type that they were born with! Here's a list of my top six curvaceous beauties of all time!

(1.) Marilyn Monroe

(2.) Christina Henricks

(3.) Brigitte Bardot

(4.) Scarlett Johansson

(5.) Sophia Loren

(6.) Elizabeth Taylor

To conclude this post... just remember that you are beautiful just the way you are! Never try and be something your not! So... yes... it is alright to have a donut or two here and there.

Life's too short to obsess over silly little things like that! Don't overeat and don't under-eat either... eat when you're hungry and you'll end up being the size God intended you to be! You'll be at your most gorgeous if you follow those steps!;) Have a great Tuesday, Beauty Queens! xoxoxo. <3

joeux anniversaire/ happy birthday, brigitte!

joyeux anniversaire!

Born on September the 28th in the year 1934, a beautiful French girl was born. In her latter years she would prove herself as phenomenal in all works she aimed to excel in. She would start out a sensational ballerina.

She would then impress the world with her enticing beauty which she contributed to her modelling career as well as her beguiling singing skills and outstanding performances as an actress.

And in honor of her Birthday (although this post is unforgivably late!), I have compiled a list of 7 life lessons from the icon. So, in the words of Brigitte...

                          (1.) Always wear  your sunhat!

(2.) Take care of all God's creatures!

(3.) Never stop experimenting with new hairstyles...

(4.) Always have music in your life!

(5.) Fashion mistakes happen to everyone, and... it's fine!

(6.) The best remedy for a long day is to put your feet up and just relax!

(7.) Classic nautical tees will always make you look fabulous!

So, despite the fact that I'm a few days late... (her Birthday was on the 28th of September, as I stated earlier) ... let's take a moment to wish this legendary beauty queen a Happy Birthday/ Joyeux Anniversaire! xoxo <3 ~ Erin

From Dream to Memory

                      From Dream to Memory

The days tend to grow dim, and the once tangerine skies of my spirit seem to become swallowed by a thick shroud of ebony, the only sign of light existing in the heart of the numerous diamond-like stars loosely strewn about the sky. I become frightened, frightened that the feint gleam of the sparse rays of starlight should remain my only offering of luminosity, my only taste of the light that has been robbed from my spirit.

But then, it returns... my once fiery yearning and most unbreakable bout of faith that someday, my dreams will indeed become a reality. That despite all of the viruses of hopelessness I may often be plagued with, nor the endless hazes of darkness that tend to diminish with the sting of my ever glowing determination, I shall again find myself as that little girl again! That same little girl who once knew for certain that dreams aren't only some mystical place one visits in the midst of a late night's slumber, but a glistening possibility of your destiny for the future. For a possible reality intended for the days to come, should you contribute endless douses of both determination and strength!

And then, I rejuvenate my once certain idea, that dreams aren't just places to visit before waking up to a morning's work, but soft whispers of what could be, of what you are capable of achieving in life should you set your mind and heart to it fully. And although our dreams may seem well over a thousand miles away, we ought to never cease to endure the obstacle infested road leading to them. Or keep in mind that mountains simply cannot be moved in a day's work, but remembering that with every step towards your destination, you are that much closer!

So, keep on going, keep on dreaming... you're journey's not over yet! But most importantly, never let the spark entangled in all of our wildest dreams dim, don't ever give up! Don't die with dreams... die with memories!

"I used to look out on the Hollywood night- there must be thousands of other girls sitting alone like me, dreaming of becoming a movie star. But I'm not going to worry about them. I'm dreaming the hardest." ~ Marilyn Monroe

So, keep on dreaming and then one day, just wait and see... you'll be watching in awe, as your dreams are transformed into sparkling realities! Have a fabulous Monday, Lovelies! xoxo ~ Erin <3
